Information We Gather
We collect two kinds of information about users: 1) data that users
volunteer by signing up to receive news and product information,
entering contests, completing surveys, or buying directly from us;
and 2) aggregated tracking data we collect when users interact with us.
We use the personal information you provide voluntarily to send
information you've requested, to contact you as required.
If you do not sign up with the site, we would only use a transient
"session cookie" to track you from one page view to the next;
these are not identifiable to you, and are discarded within
a few hours of your last page view.
If you do sign up online to contribute to the Cookbook, whether to
write recipes or comment on them, you must provide your name, email
address, and mailing address.
We are required to obtain and retain this information for legal trackability, since
recipes and comments may become part of the published version of the Cookbook.
We never sell or rent your address
or other personally identifiable information you provide us under
these circumstances. Your name will be displayed as the contributor
of your material, of course. Our software is intended to prevent
other members from accessing your personal information:
We will not disclose your email address to anyone intentionally,
but will use it (without displaying it) if another member sends you a private message.
If you directly reply to this message, your email address will,
of course, be revealed to the other member, but by your mail system,
not by our software.
We will display your web site address, twitter, facebook, G+ and
similar profile addresses (but not your email nor your physical address)
only to other verified, logged-in members.
You are not required to provide these; do not list them unless
you want them visible to other members.
We will normally send you very occasional site mails, and you will
also by default be notified if one of your Recipes is commented on
or edited. You can control these emails from your personal profile page.
We do not share this information with any other company or organization,
except that we may have to give some information to O'Reilly Media
as part of preparing the published version of the Cookbook, or we
may be obliged by Law Enforcement to disclose information as part
of an investigation.
A persistent cookie is a small data file that we transfer to your computer's
hard drive through your web browser when you visit our sites. Cookies
enable our systems to recognize your computer, so that we can provide
to track user traffic patterns.
You can set your browser to warn you before accepting cookies or to block cookies.
If you block cookies, you will not be able to log in, but you will still
be able to use the more common site features, e.g., view recipes.
Notification of Changes
Terms and Conditions, we will send an email to all registered members.
Since email is never totally reliable, you should check these two
How to update, correct, or delete your information
Use the Prefences or Profile link that appears at the top of every page
while you are logged in.
Should you wish to have your personal information permanently deleted,
you may do so at any time by using the contact form,
except that your name will still be displayed
with your contributions.
We cannot delete these because they are part of the published and printed
version of the Cookbook; you granted a non-revocable license to those
when you created your account.
